Every shop is independent and run by the person behind the counter, so most keep their own days and hours inside the market’s opening times. The market bends round a single horseshoe corridor: in one door, round the loop, out wherever you end up. The Market Side units run along the back wall and down one side, numbered 2 to 38. The Antique City units face each other across the aisle at the front, A1 to A16.

Walthams take on Wood Street Indoor Market

The letting agent for this corner of Walthamstow is now running the market. Same corridor, same shops, and a lot more to come.

From Walthams, the market’s new managers

Wood Street Indoor Market has a new team behind it. Walthams, the letting agent for this part of E17, have taken over the running of the market and are now looking after the building, the units and the traders inside them.

For anyone walking through the door, nothing changes. The corridor is the same corridor, the shops are the same shops, and it all opens Tuesday to Saturday just as it always has.

What changes is what comes next. There are empty units to fill, a frontage that deserves some attention, and a market that has been quietly brilliant for seventy years without ever making much noise about it. That last part is about to change.

Stay tuned. Fairs, late openings and new arrivals will be announced here first, and on the market’s Instagram and Facebook pages. If you have ever fancied a shop of your own, this is a very good moment to get in touch. And if you already trade here, come and say hello. We are in the building most weeks.

Our story

From picture palace to market hall

Before the stalls came the screen. This was the Crown Cinema from 1912 to 1955, reached down a long passage from Wood Street, and that passage is the corridor you walk today.

The market moved in the year the projector stopped. Seventy years on, thirty-odd small shops still trade side by side while Wood Street changes around them. The faces turn over; the horseshoe holds.

Getting here

Wood Street station is two minutes on foot, about 17 minutes from Liverpool Street on the Overground. The W16 bus stops right outside; the 123, 212, 230, 275 and W12 are a short walk.
